Imagine any kids surprise when he gets home to find a box in the mail with the sender’s name: Mike Vallely. Well let’s just say I was Bangin! off the wall with an incredible insane feeling of delight. When I had seen the actual board Mike ripped in The Berrics “Bangin!” listed on Mike V’s eBay Store as “Buy Now”, consider it sold! I had been anticipating the package’s arrival and I could never have expected what was to be the most perfect experience any Mike V fan would ever have. I carefully opened the package documenting each moment. I had to take down my McGill deck to make room and hang it on my custom made wall mount. Check out the shot of Mike’s custom grip design next to my custom grip that was airbrushed by my friend Deejay. Thank you Mike V for this feeling of being a kid again!
Your fan,
Andre (Class of ‘89)

Letter From A Soldier.
Just want to say thanks. I am over here in Afghanistan and I was able to finally download Mike V and the Rats and just about the rest of your music. I play your stuff before every mission just to get pumped up, and I am spreading the word and letting the rest of my guys listen to your music… anyway just wanted to say thanks and hope you guys keep putting out the music.

You may not be kicking ass on the daily in Afghanistan like Dave Briggs but you can still download Mike V’s ass-kicking music from his bands Mike V & The Rats and Revolution Mother. Highly recommended from the front lines.

The second installment of The Mailbag comes to us from Andrew from South Africa after seeing the Legends Skate Jam on Saturday at Musink. Following Andrew’s letter is Mike’s response. Read on…

Hey Mike.
Just wanted to mail and say a huge THANK YOU for this weekend at Musink. To finally have been able to watch you and the skate legends skating that ramp was amazing and something I never thought I’d ever see (living in South Africa till now). And then to watch you and Duane Peters on stage doing those songs from the old skate videos seriously bought a tear to my eye. I bought your last Revolution Mother album on Friday too and just like the first one…absolutely amazing. Hope to see you guys live in San Diego soon!
Keep up the good work!
-Andrew
Thanks. It was an amazing weekend for me too. Just in putting the event together and reaching out to guys like Alva, Duane, Olsen, Hosoi, Salba and Dressen and having them be so stoked to get involved, to work with me on this and make this whole thing happen — definitely a true honor. Being on that ramp and watching it all and getting to skate with these guys too… man, it was great.
Thank for the support of the band and music as well, I greatly appreciate it. Duane has been a real trooper and it’s been fun jamming with him.

The Mailbag.
The first installment of The Mailbag comes to us from Steve Aycock with a great story and a photo he shot of Mike on a stop on The Bones Brigade Summer Tour in 1987. Read on…
_______________________________
1987 was an awesome year for skateboarding. I was 17 years old and had just started my first job. Skateboarding was blowing up around our town, ramps being built, and there was a growing crowd of skaters, coming of age. We were watching and participating in the morphing rebirth of skateboard culture. We didn’t have YouTube… no Facebook or MySpace. We had skate mags and we rented videos.
At the top of the video list was “The Search for Animal Chin”. Through it, the Powell Peralta crew to many of us became iconic. On a summer day back in my yesteryear I learned that their would be a Powell Peralta demo held at our local mall. When the day of the demo arrived, I had my “Kodak 110″ handy. It’s been a lot of years since that day, and indeed most of the photos I took have been lost or destroyed over the years. Here you see what’s left of a fantastic summer day back in 1987. Can you imagine the stoke worked up ? After the demo we skated our hearts out for days on end with the memory fresh in our minds.
The stoke is still with me… and I thank those skaters for coming to our home and showing us what’s possible with the art and sport of skateboarding. A special thanks to Mike V. for making this shot possible. I’ve been showing it to folks for over two decades and now you get to see it too.
-Steve
