The premiere episode of DRIVE (originally airing in 2005) features Mike exploring the topic of professionalism in skateboarding. Mike visits with his childhood hero and skateboarding legend Lance Mountain, Ryan Sheckler, and Tony Hawk to get their views on the challenges of being a professional in this ever-evolving sport. The result is a moving collection of individual approaches and perspectives, combined with skate action in a diversity of settings that capture the essence of skateboarding and what it means to be a true professional.

SEASON TWO
EPISODE ONE “BREAKDOWN”
The premiere episode of the second season of DRIVE (originally airing in 2007) finds Mike entering his 20th year as a professional skater, only to suffer a serious ankle injury while skating a demo in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Mike visits with his orthopedic surgeon, and undergoes surgery receiving eight screws and a plate to repair his broken ankle. After two months in a cast Mike begins a rigorous physical therapy routine to rehabilitate his ankle and make his way back to skating at the level he did prior to the accident. The episode culminates with Mike skating his first demo since the accident in Freehold, New Jersey before thousands of fans.

DRIVE: Australia 2.
Mike’s television show DRIVE is now airing in Australia for the first time and the feedback so far has been tremendously positive.
Here are two recent letters we have received from Australia:
“I have watched 3 episodes of Drive on Channel ONE in Oz. I dont skate and dont even really like watching skating but I am glued to the show. It is just so much better than anything on TV. It should be compulsory viewing in schools.
I make my 6 year old watch it, not that he needs convincing….My wife even watches too. Very Inspiring. Thank you for making it.

Hi Mike
I’m 29 years old and I have been skating for the last 16 years, open skating through Europe (Germany) and Australia. I have seen you skate at the World Masterships in Dortmund, Germany in 1997 and 1998. I have seen you in the underground train station in Dortmund while I was on the way to the World Masterships. I admire your drive to skate and your philosophy towards skateboarding and your way of life. I haven’t missed an episode of your show since I’ve been watching it. Just seeing the kids reactions when you rock up to there local skate park put a smile on my face. I live in a small town in central Queensland on the east coast where we have many young enthusiastic skateboarders.
One of mine and my wife’s dreams is to create an indoor fully air conditioned skate park due to the Australian heat and our local council doesn’t think much of entertaining the youth. That is another reason this is one of our dreams to keep the youth off the streets and out of trouble and to give the young kids an oportunity to enjoy the skateboarding lifestyle like you and I and many other people enjoy it. You are inspiring to many people as you know you have given me the inspiration to get back into my skateboarding after my wife and I had our georgous little boy as I had lost the drive to skateboard being too busy working and looking after my family. I really understand and agree with your motto “STAND STRONG.” I would really appriciate it if you could get back in contact with me. Cheers mate, skate on.
